However Vast the Darkness

“However vast the darkness, we must supply our own light.”
– Stanley Kubrick
While Stanley Kubrick was speaking about the making of films, this seems quite appropriate to life as well. For isn’t life a moving picture? A three dimensional projection into time and space. One in which we are the star.
This makes one wonder… What is the film about? How does it go? How will it end?
What kind of film is it, this story of our life?
We, after all, are the directors. Not only that, but we write it, we produce it, we cast it, we star in it. And we determine the course that the story will take.
Like any good story, there are ups and downs, twists and turns. And of course, crises, conflict, suspense, triumph, and defeat. All the elements that keep the story moving along.
At the center of it all, the protagonist. The hero.
And that hero is YOU.
You are the hero, but never forget your role of director. You choose how to light each scene. How to frame it. How to pace it.
You decide which way the story will go and how the hero’s journey will unfold.
Of course, there is always the element of surprise. And there are things outside of our control. But that is when one must employ the skills of adaptability and flexibility.
Thus the story unfolds — both of its own volition as well as our own.
Ready. Set. Action…
